Questions and Answers are cited below as
"Q" and "A"
1. Q: Why do I call attention to this title?
A: Because it is one of the results of Semitism.
2. Q: Is that all?
A: No. The "State of Fear" is one of the consequences, -and intended consequences by some-of what is called "anti-Semitism.
3. Q: But, why this title?
A: Because it is the title of the book by one of America's most successful authors.
4. Q: Who is that?
A: Michael Crichton.
5. Q: Who is he?
A: A handsome [6' 10" (2.08m)] man, born 1942 in Chicago, IL with an outstanding background which, -besides Harvard Medical School and much more, -"moved to Hollywood in the early 70s and began directing movies based on his books. His first big break being Westworld (1973).
6. Q: How did his name come up in connection with "State of Fear"?
A: He is author of a book by that name, published 2004. It is a bestseller.
Brian Curtis writes about Michael Crichton in an Internet article at a http://slate.msn.com.id/2110815/ "The Middlebrow Michael Cricthon, planet earth's novelist of doom." Curtis states that "Crichton's books have suffered as his right-leaning politics have come to the fore."
7. Q: What further does Curtis say about Crichton's "State of Fear"?
A: Curtis writes, -"Instead of being charmed by the nerdy footnotes, you feel suspicious of them-they're propaganda."
8. Q: But are they propaganda against Semites, including Jews?
A: The answer to this question is not clear, but you can judge for yourself from the book itself, "State of Fear," -as well as other writings and lectures.
As for example, in a lecture at Caltech Michelin, January 17, 2003, Crichton discussed the problem he had with "consensus science."
"Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. . . . ¶In 1849, Semmelweiss demonstratedd that sanitary techniques virtually eliminated puerperal fever in hospitals under his management. The consensus said he was a Jew, ignored him, and dismissed him from his post. There was in fact no agreement on puerperal fever until the start of the twentieth century. Thus the consensus took one hundred and twenty five years to arrive at the right conclusion."
However p. 576 of Appendix 1 of Crichton's book- "State of Fear," contradicts any unscientific state of Crichton's mind as:
"Today, we know that this famous theory that gained so much support was actually pseudoscience. . . . And the actions taken in the name of this theory were morally and criminally wrong. Ultimately, they led to the deaths of millions of people."¶The theory was eugenics, and its history is so dreadful-and, to those who were caught up in it, so embarrassing-that it is now rarely discussed. But it is a story that should be well known to every citizen, so that its horrors are not repeated."¶The theory of eugenics postulated a crisis of the gene pool leading to the deterioration of the human race. The best human beings were not breeding as rapidly as the inferior ones-the foreigners, immigrants, Jews, degenerates, the unfit, and the ėfeeble minded.' Francis Galton, a respected British scientist, first speculated about this area, but his ideas were taken far beyond anything he intended. They were adopted by science-minded Americans, as well as those who had no interest in science but who were worried about the immigration of inferior races early in the twentieth century-ėdangerous human pests' who represented ėthe rising tide of imbeciles' and who were polluting the best of the human race." ¶The eugenicists and the immigrationists joined forces to put a stop to this. The plan was to identify individuals who were feeble-mindedóJews were agreed to be largely feeble-minded, but so were many foreigners, as well as blacksóand stop them from breeding by isolation in institutions or by sterilization."
. . .
"Such views were widely shared. H.G. Wells spoke against ėill-trained swarms of inferior citizens.' Theodore Roosevelt said that ėSociety has no business to permit degenerates to reproduce their kind.' Luther Burbank: ėStop permitting criminals and weaklings to reproduce.' George Bernard Shaw said that only eugenics could save mankind. ¶There was overt racism in this movement, exemplified by texts such as The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy, by American author Lothrop Stoddard."
". . . the eugenics movement was really a social program masquerading as a scientific one. What drove it was concern about immigration and racism and undesirable people moving into one's neighborhood or country. Once again, vague terminology helped conceal what was really going on."
9. Q: Is there an appropriate summary to Crichton's views on this subject?
A: Yes.
10. Q: What is it?
A: At page 580 of Appendix I of "State of Fear":
"The past history of human belief is a cautionary tale. We have killed thousands of our fellow human beings because we believed that they have signed a contract with the devil, and had become witches. We still kill more than a thousand people each year for witchcraft. In my view, there is only one hope for humankind to emerge from that Carl Sagan called ėthe demon-haunted world' of our past. That hope is science."
"But as Alston Chase put it, 'when the search for truth is confused with political advocacy, the pursuit of knowledge is reduced to the quest for power. ¶That is a danger we now face. And that is why the intermixing of science and politics is a bad combination, with a bad history. We must remember the history, and be certain that what we present to the world as knowledge is disinterested and honest."
11. Q: In sum?
A: Michael Crichton is basically on the right track as stated in his book: "State of Fear," -insofar as concerns racial propaganda. The answer is that his views appear basically balanced and sound.
It is also consistent with the fact that his popularity includes the world of Hollywood and DVDs.
